With the digitization of the Mexico City hospital network, the aim of the Department of Health of the capital was to implement ehCOS technology to improve the efficiency of clinical processes as well as optimize the management processes in each of the 30 hospitals.

Business Process Reengineering Based on the SAMIH Experience

The SAMIH reengineering process was geared towards improving the efficiency of the specific processes of the Mexico City Department of Health, basing them on international best practices. The ehCOS technology, based on Business Project Management (BPM), enabled a faster and easier adaptation of the local peculiarities and the Mexican regulations in this matter.

More than 50 process, including medical analysis, administrative, nursing and social work, have been carried out in SAMIH, with the modification of 25 procedure manuals and the creation of 19 operation and protocol manuals. Not to mention the modification of procedures for existing activities to adapt to them to the legal framework.
The ‘in situ’ experience served to identify and improve the practices developed, creating clinical practice guidelines based on greater scientific and professional evidence. The redesign of these processes obligates progressive adjustments based on the experience itself during development.

Reengineering enables processes to adapt to the reality of the patient in the Mexico City hospital network, as well as of the healthcare provider and the organization. The re-engineering of the processes in SAMIH has successfully strengthened the positive patient experience, whilst seeking excellence in the clinical practice of the system.

Improving the Efficiency of the Healthcare System

Thanks to the existence of a robust, modern and efficient Hospital Information System for the entire network of hospitals, greater efficiency of processes is achieved through the optimization of the time that clinical and administrative personnel invest in their tasks. Since SAMIH is an intuitive and user-friendly system, it provides the necessary tool for streamlining and automating processes, without neglecting its efficiency and effectiveness.

There is greater efficiency for scheduling patient appointments, since their information will only be entered once in their health record, making it easier to find them and schedule their visit in the system. It is faster both for the patient and for us,” says Carla Baez, Outpatient Visits, Hospital Ajusco Medio.
